Trekking on Socotra Island
Socotra
is fascinating for its the unexplored regions, and offers
breathtaking, enthralling trekking routes. In the vast mountain
ranges of "Haghier" and Diksam plateau, there are limitless
possibilities for trekking. Within the alluring qarena, the
Scand, Diksam and Firmihin regions occupy the centre of the
Island, with some points of interest for the trekkers.
Spectacular views apart, the Haghier foothills are just ideal
for trekking,
offering energetic outdoor people a different and exciting
option for their holiday.
The Scand, Tinnera, Firmihin and Dersmotin regions
are the most popular destinations for trekkers, though Ayhaft
Canyon, Momi, and some places in the west and south-west also
have some very interesting trekking routes as well.
Scand,
an area known for its very rich and diverse flora and fauna
where no cars or camels can reach. Therefore, a team of local
porters carries all food and equipment. The route continues
along the Northern side of the Hajhir Mountains before
descending to Ayhaft canyon, one of the most beautiful sights in
Socotra, with its incense trees and uniquely colorful bird life.
You then trek across the Rawgad Mountains before arriving back
in Hadibo.
